Center of Muslim Politics and World Society Studies (COMPOSE) is a center for multi-disciplinary research and public outreach on socio-economic and political developments of Muslim states and societies and their inter-connections with world society. The Center fosters collaboration in cutting-edge research and public outreach by faculty members, researchers, and students from various disciplinary backgrounds around the world. COMPOSE is housed under the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universitas Islam International Indonesia (UIII).
Research at COMPOSE covers both theoretical and empirical problems on socio-economic and political developments of Muslim states and societies and their inter-connections with world society. COMPOSE offers a distinctive approach to the empirical study of Muslim states and societies by combining a rich understanding of the historical development of these states and societies and advanced knowledge and skills on research methodology in social sciences. The research utilizes qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method approaches in social sciences.
Term and Conditions
- The grant awardees will be associated as fellows at the Center for the period of three months, from September 15, 2024, to December 15, 2024.
- Applicant should submit the following documents:
• Letter of application;
• Complete CV;
• One writing sample in SCOPUS (Q1/Q2);
• A research writing proposal for the Research Fellowship program at the Center,
• One reference letter. - The guidelines for submission:
• The paper must be written in English
• The research writing proposal should be structured in the following order: abstract; keywords; main text introduction, brief literature review, methods, brief discussion of preliminary results (if possible); preliminary bibliography - The topic of research writing proposal should match the research priorities of the Center, which include:
• Environmental issues and Politics, Political Institutions, and Electoral Competitions in Muslim Societies;
• Transnationalism and Globalized Muslim Societies;
• Middle Power Politics and World Society;
• Political Economy of Muslim States and Societies. - The final draft of the paper should be submitted by December 15, 2024, so applicants need to ensure that the paper can be completed on time.
- Three fellowships will be offered to scholars, including Ph.D. Candidates. These fellowships are offered to support specific high-quality writing projects. One fellowship will be offered to a photographer. This fellowship is to support a visual project recording tolerance and communal harmony in Indonesia. The selected photographer will prepare for a public exhibition of his/her work on 1 December 2024 at UIII, addressing the theme of religious pluralism.
- The fellowship is residential, requiring fellows to stay in the UIII dormitory. Travel expenses will be reimbursed, limited to the equivalent of an economy-class airfare.
- As a Fellow, the grant awardee is expected to engage with, and contribute to, activities organized by the Center in particular and by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the UIII in general.
- The Center will publish the final paper as part of its Working Paper Series.
