On May 29, 2024, the 50th Brownbag session featured Mutmainna Syam, a PhD candidate at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and a COMPOSE fellow at UIII’s Faculty of Social Sciences. The event, titled “Navigating Religious Dichotomies: Politics in Turkey and Indonesia,” explored the political landscapes of both countries, examining the challenges of democratization, majoritarianism, and the role of religion in politics. Mutmainna delved into the simplified dichotomies of Pluralists vs. Islamists in Indonesia and Secularists vs. Islamists in Turkey. The session took place from 14:00 to 15:30 Jakarta Time in the Teleconference Room, Faculty B Building, UIII.
