STQ2M Publishing Workshop for Social Sciences

About

This workshop offers instruction in the skills needed to successfully write academic publications. The workshop will be divided into two sessions. The first session will address the various stages of paper writing (outlines, abstracts, literature reviews, overall structure, writing style and strategies, submission for publication). This course focuses specifically on writing in the social sciences, which have their particular structures and expectations commonly distinct from most natural science fields.

The second session will introduce participants to fundamental bookmaking processes and techniques that make the book a generative medium for social science research. The workshop will provides graduate students, early-career researchers and post-docs an introduction to the basics of writing and editing academic books. A focus will be on using PhD and Postdoc research as a means of generating viable book publications. The course will cover the complete workflow of the process from deciding to write a book through finding the best publisher, writing a proposal, working with a commissioning editor, writing and editing the manuscript, and marketing the book after publication.

Iim Halimatusa’diyah

Affiliation: Visiting Senior Fellow at the Regional Social and Cultural Studies Programme, ISEAS, Singapore; Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta

Dr. Iim Halimatusa’diyah is Professor in the Department of Sociology at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta, Indonesia. She holds an M.A. degree in Sociology from the University of Birmingham, UK, and a Ph.D. degree in Sociology from Iowa State University, USA. Her research focuses on the relationship between politics, gender, health, religion, and development. Her works have been published in the Journal of Civil Society, Journal of Rural Studies, Rural Sociology, Southeast Asia Research, International Sociology, Asian Politics and Policy, Journal of Development Perspectives, Social Science Quarterly, Sociology of Development, and Social and Legal Studies.
