
Anna M. Gade is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, specializing in Islam, religion and ethics, Southeast Asian studies, and environmental studies. Her work bridges Islamic studies and environmental humanities, with a strong focus on environmental ethics, climate, and sustainability in the Global South. She served as a Visiting Professor at Faculty of Social Sciences Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia.
She holds a Ph.D. with distinction in the history of religions from the University of Chicago Divinity School and has taught at leading institutions including Cornell University, Princeton University, Oberlin College, and Victoria University of Wellington. Prof. Gade is the author of influential works such as Muslim Environmentalisms (2019) and has conducted extensive field-based research in Indonesia.
