Dr. Nia Deliana served as a discussant at the event “Human Rights in the Geography of the East,” a program organized by Baqir al-Olum University in collaboration with the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization and the Scientific Association of Language and Intercultural Studies on February 15, 2025.

In her speech titled “How Do Human Rights Foundations Shape Geopolitical Peace in the Indian and Malay Peninsulas?” Nia Deliana examined the history of human rights in the maritime regions of Southeast Asia.

Referring to the increasing number of sea refugees and humanitarian crises in the region, she discussed the role of maritime human rights foundations in shaping geopolitical peace, particularly in relation to structural hierarchies. By analyzing various civilizations, she highlighted their influence on the development of global human rights.

Additionally, Deliana explored Malay maritime laws, the challenges posed by colonial maritime laws, and their impact on human rights violations at sea. She concluded by emphasizing the importance of non-hegemonic cooperation and mutual economic relations in maintaining future peace in the region.
