Abstract
This study investigates Islamic transnational networks and their political movements in Indonesia. This group experienced ups and downs in political activities throughout the history of Indonesian democracy during the New Order era. However, many scholars have investigated Islamic transnational networks that show significant improvement after reformation, particularly in religious as well as social movements, da’wah, and education. Islamic transnational networks in Indonesia have been actively involved in political movements over the last few decades, despite the fact that these groups have never won elections in Indonesia’s democratic history. Given that Indonesia will hold election in 2024, even though the government has banned some transnational Islamic groups and networks, this does not mean that their political ideals of an Islamic state will simply disappear. In addition to conducting in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and field observations, the author employs a digital ethnographic approach in which social media, websites, and online news sources serve as secondary data.
