Center of Muslim Politics and World Society Studies (COMPOSE) at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII) invites researchers, graduate students, and scholars to join as Research Fellows. We provide Research/Working Paper Writing Grants as part of our research fellowship program. The writing grant is open to Ph.D. holders or Ph.D. candidates who are already in the writing stage of their dissertation in Indonesia or overseas or scholars in social and political science in general.

Terms and conditions

  1. The grant awardees will be associated as research fellows at the Center for the period of four months, from 1 May 2023 to 31 August 2023.
  2. Applicant should submit the following documents: a) letter of application; b) complete CV; c) one writing sample; d) a research writing proposal for the Research Fellowship program at the Center, e) one reference letter.
  3. The topic of research writing proposal should match the research priorities of the Center, which include: a) environmental issues and politics, b) political institutions and electoral competitions in Muslim societies; c) transnationalism and globalized Muslim societies; d) middle power politics and world society; e) political economy of Muslim states and societies.
  4. The guidelines for submission:
  • The paper must be written in English
  • The research writing proposal should be structured in the following order: abstract; keywords; main text introduction, methods, a brief literature review, brief discussion of preliminary results (if possible); preliminary bibliography.
  1. The final draft of the paper should be submitted by 31 August 2023 so applicants need to ensure that the paper can be completed on time.
  2. The final paper will be published by the Center as part of its Working Paper Series.
  3. The research fellowship is non-residential in nature and provides no financial responsibilities of the Center except for the Research/Working Paper Writing Grant that is payable upon the completion of the first draft (see point No.5 above).
  4. As a Research Fellow, the grant awardee is expected to engage with, and contribute to, activities organized by the Center in particular, and by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the UIII in general.
  5. This grant will be awarded to four selected individuals. Each awardee will receive a total of IDR 40 million.

Center of Muslim Politics and World Society (COMPOSE) is a center for multi-disciplinary research and public outreach on socio-economic and political developments of Muslim states and societies and their inter-connections with world society. The Center fosters collaboration in cutting-edge research and public outreach by faculty members, researchers, and students from various disciplinary backgrounds around the world. Research at COMPOSE covers both theoretical and empirical problems on socio-economic and political developments of Muslim states and societies and their inter-connections with world society. COMPOSE offers a distinctive approach to the empirical study of Muslim states and societies by combining a rich understanding of the historical development of these states and societies and advanced knowledge and skills on research methodology in social sciences. The research utilizes qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method approaches in social sciences.
